Why Small Businesses Need Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Services

What does an Employee Assistance – Work/Life Program Do?

An EAP helps employees sort out the difficulties that may be causing them trouble at home or in the workplace. Personal problems such as work-related stress, marital or family problems, or alcohol and drug addiction, can affect almost anyone. Sometimes, such problems can impair am employee’s performance at work, leading to lower productivity, strained relations with co-workers and frequent absences or accidents. Through their EAP benefit, they will be able to get professional psychological counseling to help them resolve their problems.

Many employers that do not have the advantage of utilizing an EAP program for employee counseling end up trying to provide the counseling themselves. These kinds of measures are a band-aid approach at best and can put the employer in difficult situations they are not prepared for or qualified to handle. The EAP short-term intervention program focuses on clarifying the problem, implementing solutions and monitoring progress. The result is a healthier, more productive employee with improved relations at home and at work.

Jefferson Health System’s FirstCALL Employee Assistance Program and Work/Life Program is now available to help Small Business employees and their families resolve the everyday problems that keep them from doing their job. Traditionally available to only large companies, we have developed a model of service that can serve associations and organizations of small businesses. Employees and their families can get professional counseling to help them sort out the difficulties that may be disrupting their ability to work. Through the EAP program, counselors will help employees to clarify their problem, implement the solution and remain a productive worker. This program is confidential. No one will know the employee or family member has contacted us. Not their physician, their employer, or their insurance company.
