Business Start-Up Check List
Outlining your success
1.Prepare a business plan
- Identify potential clients (attempt to locate close to client base)
- Develop an understanding of all costs of doing business(taxes, rent, equipment, utilities, advertising, insurance)
- Consider best form of advertising (newspapers, posters, handbills, radio, mail)
- Identify suppliers of raw materials or inventory
- Explore sources of funding of business
- Analyze the competition in order to uncover your competitive advantage
- Consider type and number of employees you may need to hire
2. Contact accountant, lawyer, banker, insurance agent to seek their professional guidance
3. Consider a business organizational structure
4. File a Fictitious Name form if necessary
5. Apply for a Federal Employer's Identification number
6. Check licensing requirements at the local, county and state-levels
7. Establish a commercial bank account
8. Protect yourself with all necessary legal and insurance coverage
9. Decide on possible subscriptions to trade journals and other periodicals to assist you in running your business
